Stan’s wife, Virginia, keeps a scrapbook of newspaper
clippings and magazine features; it would bore you to read the volumes of
articles from over the years. However, some of the most significant ones
are Minnesota Monthly Magazine (1997) [front cover], Midwest
Living Magazine (1998), Country Woman (2000), and
National Geographic Traveler Magazine (2001).
Travel writers have written articles for newspapers, for
magazines, and for travel guidebooks, like Off the Beaten Path
and most recently, Eccentric America [2001].
Travel guides and bus tour operators are discovering what a
visit to the sod house has to offer for senior citizens, bank tours,
church groups, Laura Ingalls study groups, community education groups, and
mystery tours. For them it means an authentic and nostalgic visit to the
sod homes of the 1880s, the the tallgrass prairie with wildflowers, to the
life of the homesteader. The men on the bus are especially enthralled by
the architecture of the sod houses; the women are captivated by the
antique furnishings.
“He built it, and they came.”
Now what about you? Will you come to the prairie “field of
dreams”?

especially colorful during the month of July; the prairie grasses
are tall in August, September, and
October. | |
